🌊 Paddling Forward through the Waves as a Team! I have always had a deep love for the ocean and have regularly participated in various water sports. However, since joining the outrigger canoe paddling community, I have found a way to recharge my spirit and gained valuable personal growth insights into teamwork and leadership. Everyone must work together as a cohesive unit to move forward in a canoe, which requires effective communication and putting egos aside. These skills are also incredibly beneficial in my professional life, especially in my role in supply chain management, where collaboration is essential. Participating in outrigger canoeing has also taught me how to inspire and guide others toward common goals, which has been invaluable in my leadership positions. The teamwork, communication, and humility required in this sport have made me a better team member, leader, and person in all areas of my life. Last weekend, after many months of training and collaboration, my team and I competed in the Catalina Outrigger Championships, a 30-mile, 9-person relay crossing the channel from Newport to Avalon. Although conditions were less than favorable, We Did It. It was a fantastic experience to share with my team and family! Here are the Lessons I Learned 🌊 Don’t be afraid: We tackled the waves together, navigating huge side swells and headwinds and gaining a fresh perspective on their impact. Rather than holding back or playing it safe to avoid wiping out, we approached each wave with unwavering confidence and went all in. 🌊 Ride the Waves: We inspired each other by staying optimistic and setting an example of how to ride the turbulent water and surf further than imagined, with more happiness. Ultimately, it's up to you whether you let the waves crash over you or take you to unexplored territories. 🌊 Jump: We found a balance between being firmly rooted and flexible enough to handle whatever came our way. We jumped in as a team. Leading together and navigating the waves as a group allowed us to stay open to new ideas while remaining committed to our goal. Remember, even if knocked down, you can always get back up, even when faced with the Kraken 🐙. What's the worst that can happen? a Huli? 🌊 Laugh, Have Fun, Play: While paddling, we played with ideas, engaged with the people around us, and explored together. We stopped worrying about every wave that would be and stayed in the present. Waves may be a sign of bad weather yet to come, but there’s one sure thing: you are strong enough to face the waves coming your way when you work as a team. 🌊 Go ahead, dive in, paddle forward; you won’t regret it!
